History of the INTERNET
" INTERNET " is the name literally derived from 'interconnection of the computer networks'. The internet started off in the 1960's under the original name of 'ARPAnet'. ARPAnet was originally a research project in the US military for maintaining communications in case of a possible nuclear strike. Later on, ARPAnet grew to become a civilian experiment for connecting university mainframe computers for academic purposes. With the personal computer (PC) becoming the in-thing in the 1980's and 1990's, the Internet started to grow exponentially.MOre and more users wanted to get their computers connected to the massive network. Today,the Internet has grown into a public 'spider web' whereby millions of personal, government, and commercial computers, are all connected either by wired or wireless means.
